    IE Stops working after download

I collect old radio shows and frequently download them to my computer.  For quite awhile I have downloaded 2 shows at a time.  They are saved to my Download file.  After one download is complete I get a message saying IE has stopped working and will restart,  It does restart, but I cannot download any files.  I then installed Firefox, thinking that would solve the issue.  I get a message saying Firefox has stopped working, but it does not restart.  This happens if I only download one show.  Interesting enough, the remaining file continues to download in the background.  I am on Vista, with 2 MB of ram and a 2MB ready boost card.  I am on high speed DSL and have no issues.  Does anyone have a solution.  This is really annoying.  I am a retired 70 year old who is one the computer alot and somewhat knowledgeable, but I can't figure this one out.  Thanks
