Re: Have you ever re-installed Windows Vista?

    I have reformatted/re-installed Vista twice:
1; due to sound card pbms (which was the result of Vista updates)
2; to give the  laptop a "purge"

Re: Have you ever re-installed Windows Vista?

Sure!! Twice for me also. However it was not vista's doing in both cases.

The Ist time I installed vista it was a free upgrade I recieved when I purchased my current desktop. ( It was BAD!!! ) I soon went back to XP.

I re-installed in Sept. & wondered what all the gritching was about. It was great!!!

I had installed ontop of XP to save programs I never used & decided to clean house early this year . I did a second re-install this time &

sent all of my old stuff to never-never land & it has been super. I just like my disk lean ( store about every thing on an external hard drive).

With a few tweeks &  some freeware Vista has been good to me. My only gripe is the Defrag. which Auslogics kindly helped with. I  am

    now a happy camper.

Re: Have you ever re-installed Windows Vista?

I have re-installed Vista doing a complete new install. My reasons being that

I tried a few tweaks that didn't work and rather than go through the hassel of

undoing them I just re-installed and now have Vista running as I want it. In 6 months

time I'll probably do the same. Kill the hard drive and re-install, that way you get rid

of any rubbish and have a fresh system again.

Hvn't voted on this because, as of today I have not re-installed, but I will very soon. I upgraded over XP, never 100% happy, and now if full of rubbush and needs a good clean out

Re: Have you ever re-installed Windows Vista?

I had to use my recovery discs to reinstall Vista twice. Once when update to SP1 failed miserably, rendering the system unbootable (luckily all the data was backed up). After a clean recovery, SP1 installed successfully.

The second time I had to use the recovery discs was when I upgraded my HDD. Everything went smoothly.

Re: Have you ever re-installed Windows Vista?

I've had to reinstall twice now. Once due to system problems and once while updating and my hard drive fried and had to install a new one. Fortunately I had made some back up discs so installation was straight forward, just a pain in the butt putting all my programes back again. I note with interest that quite a few others have had similar HD failures and wonder if it is related to this operating system. Someone else I know also had HD failure after updating their computer. All seems OK so far but have lost some trust in this system. Used to have XP for years with no problems

Formated my disk and did a clean install; Great, and very straight forward, no problems and only took a couple of hours.

Quick update on my re-installation. During the Xmas break I hit a couple of snags with IE7, however I found that these were related directly to Vista. I could not print pages (to anything) save pages or save favourites.

After visiting the Microsoft knowledge-base, I came away with nothing. A search of the web revealed that the problem was to do with integrity levels, and that Vista does not allow simple moving of file location (as per XP and previous iterations) The forums gave me the correct CLI input and all is now well (hopefully).

I do find it odd that Microsoft have no details of this on their pages!!

Re: Have you ever re-installed Windows Vista?

Ihave installed vista loads of times and upgraded from xp. I have even installed the 64bit version.

Ihave found that when i upgraded from xp it always stopped and broke down and so the fresh install is better.

I have done a few fresh installs as i found it slowed down so started it again.

Problems with 64bit was that you could not get ALL 32bit software to run and some 64bit drivers didn't actually work for vista 64. (abit wifi card a prime example.)
